IMPERFECT enables construction actors to benefit from circularity
Streamlining circular construction data with Digital Material Passports for waste and reuse materials.

Unlocking the hidden value of construction material before it becomes waste
Across demolition, renovation, and fit-out projects, valuable materials are still lost because inventory processes are slow, fragmented, and poorly connected to circular recovery pathways. Although many building components retain strong residual value, only around 1% of construction materials are reused today, leading to significant environmental and economic losses through waste and embodied carbon.
Current material audits are often costly, time-consuming, and based on incompatible data formats, which makes circular potential difficult to identify and act on. Imperfect addresses this gap by helping contractors, consultants, and developers identify existing materials, assess their circularity, and document reusable assets more efficiently, enabling better decisions for recovery, reuse, and value creation across the building lifecycle.
The resource in a nutshell
Turning circular construction data into traceable materials, measurable impact, and new value streams.
Imperfect is a circular construction platform built to make circular project management practical across renovation, demolition, and reuse workflows. Centered on collaborative material inventory, it helps project teams identify existing materials, document waste and reuse opportunities, and generate structured data that can support pre-demolition audits, compliance processes, and reporting requirements.
The platform combines digital inventory tools, automated data structuring, circularity and environmental impact tracking, and Digital Material Passports with QR-linked documentation. It makes material information more accessible, traceable, and usable across stakeholders.
Imperfect helps construction actors document waste and reuse materials, support pre-demolition audits and reporting needs, and create a clearer path from existing building stock to measurable circular value.
Imperfect was supported by the EIT Community NEB under the NEB Booster 2.0 programme and received funding from the DUT Partnership in 2023.
